Resolving Apply exceptions when GroupShield for Exchange 6 AMX is installed with McAfee VirusScan Enterprise.

This Knowledgebase article provides important information about the installation of GroupShield for Exchange AMX when installed on a Neverfail pair with both McAfee GroupShield for Microsoft Exchange 6 and McAfee VirusScan Enterprise.

More Information

Because McAfee GroupShield for Microsoft Exchange 6 and McAfee VirusScan Enterprise are from the same software vendor, they share a common default install (parent) directory: C:\Program Files\Network Associates.

During a Full System Check, Neverfail Heartbeat requires access to the shared common parent directory.  Since one of the services used by McAfee VirusScan Enterprise keeps the directory open, the Full System Check will fail to verify the directory.

To prevent synchronization issues, Neverfail recommends installing McAfee VirusScan Enterprise in a non-default directory to ensure that both applications do not share a common parent directory thereby allowing Neverfail to complete a Full System Check successfully .

If McAfee VirusScan Enterprise is currently installed in the default location, Neverfail recommends that it be uninstalled and reinstalled in a different (non-default) directory.

e.g. C:\Program Files\McAfee VirusScan

If you have already completed the installation of Neverfail Heartbeat with these components then it is recommended that McAfee VirusScan Enterprise be reinstalled on both the active and passive servers.
