Attempting to Protect the Root of Any Microsoft Windows Drive Using a File Filter (e.g. C:\** or D:\**) Is Not Recommended

This Knowledgebase article provides information about a specific issue identified by Neverfail when creating file filters manually.

More Information

Neverfail Heartbeat allows for the addition of custom (user defined) file filters e.g. C:\Program files\3rd party application\**.

Neverfail has identified in V5.2.2 and earlier that if the root of a drive is added to the file filter set (e.g. C:\**), Neverfail may experience problems replicating the System Volume Information folder. This type of filter should not be included in a Neverfail Heartbeat V5.2.2 and earlier filter set as it may prevent Heartbeat from becoming fully synchronized, thus preventing a successful switchover or failover.

Starting with V5.3.0 and later, Neverfail Heartbeat will veto any attempt to add the root of a drive (e.g. C:\**) to a file filter thereby preventing the issue from arising.

Care should always be taken when adding custom filters. Please contact Neverfail Support if you have any questions about this Knowledgebase article or require further advice.
