Additional information about the current and supported versions of this AMX may be found in sister article, Knowledgebase article #542 - 'GFI MailEssentials - Application Module eXtension - Versions', which lists all the versions of the AM(X) that we have produced to date and the versions of related supported software. In addition, there are links from that sister article to articles that explain the unique features of each version.
GFI MailEssentials is a server based anti-spam software for Microsoft Exchange. There are two possible deployments for this product:
- On the same machine as the Microsoft Exchange server, in which case the AM(X) will be installed as an AM(X) for Neverfail for Exchange (offers the full functionality and is the recommended deployment); or
- On a different machine, configured as mail relay server, using IIS SMTP services, in which case the AM(X) will be installed as an AM(X) for Neverfail for IIS.
The AM(X) protects all the GFI MailEssentials services and all the necessary program files and settings.
This is a list of all services protected by this AM(X). Please note that where an AM(X) supports multiple vendor versions, some services may not be present in a particular version.
- GFI MailEssentils Attendant
- GFI POP2Exchange
When the AM(X) is installed all protected services will be set to manual unless otherwise stated.
This is a description of the protected data set that was determined at AM(X) install time. Please note that exact filters will be based on the configuration of the application when the AM(X) was installed.
- All registry data
- All program files and settings, the logs and the anti-spam database.
Automatic Filter Discovery
The AM(X) does not provide a filter discovery component. The AM(X) will need to be reinstalled according to Knowledgebase article #462 - 'How to Upgrade or Reinstall an Application Module to Protect Previously Unprotected Features' if the application is reconfigured such that new locations are specified for files that are currently protected.
