How to Start and Stop Applications in Neverfail Heartbeat V5.2.2 and Earlier

Follow

Summary

This Knowledgebase article provides information about how to start and stop applications using the Neverfail Heartbeat Management Client.

More Information

Neverfail allows you to stop and start applications and start application monitoring from the Neverfail Heartbeat Management Client.

Procedure

To stop or start an application or start monitoring, follow the steps below:

Protected applications are started, stopped, and monitored from the Start/Stop tab of the Application screen.

  1. Open the Neverfail Management Client.
  2. Click on the Application button select the Start/Stop tab.
  3. Clicking on the Neverfail Server icon will present four buttons in the section beneath the tree view:

Application Start Stop Screen

Applications Section

The button listed below perform the actions associated with each:

Start Starts all protected applications that the application manager has been configured to protect
Stop Stops the monitoring of all the protected applications and shuts the protected applications down (in the case of services, the services are stopped).
Monitor Starts monitoring all the protected applications if monitoring has been switched off individually for an application(s).
Reset Resets the global application status to unknown. This can prove useful if the application has stopped and monitoring was not enabled, as the start script will not run when the global application status reads executing.

Scripts Section

The Scripts section provides two additional buttons and perform the actions associated with each:

Terminate

Stops all the scripts configured for all the protected applications.

Reset

Resets the status for each of the scripts. Again, this may prove useful if the application has stopped but monitoring was not enabled, as the start script will not run when the global application status reads executing.

Note that when Neverfail Heartbeat starts, all applications' start scripts are run simultaneously, followed by all monitor scripts.  If applications are manually started, either following initial set up or following a manual stop of the application, monitor scripts should also be manually started.

If just one application is required to be started, stopped, monitored or have its scripts terminated, its application name should be clicked in the tree view and the appropriate button selected.

Individual scripts may be terminated or have their status reset by clicking on their entry in the tree view and clicking the appropriate button in the ‘Scripts’ section.
