This Knowledgebase article provides information about Neverfail Heartbeat and the Exchange Index Service database.
Neverfail Heartbeat for Exchange does not support protection of the Index store database. While it is possible, it is not recommended to do so.
The Index Service creates a database that is approximately 1/5th the size of the store being indexed. The service itself can create a large amount of CPU and disk activity during the indexing period, which will not only affect Exchange but also drastically increase Neverfail replication traffic.
Unless provision of this service is deemed absolutely critical after a failover, this database should not be protected. As a consequence, users will experience slower searches after a failover although critical email will be preserved.
Please ensure that if the stores are to be indexed that:
- They are not created on the same disk as the Exchange mail & public stores.
- Within Neverfail protected folders.
Please contact your Neverfail Support Representative if you need further information.
