How long will a switchover take?

Follow

Since a switchover is a managed process that ensures zero loss of data, the time to complete the full process of a switchover is made up of the time to complete the following processes:

1. Manually stop the protected application on the active server.
2. Flush any data resident in the queue across the Neverfail channel, the speed of which is dependant on the traffic that was generated on the active server prior to the switchover being initiated and the bandwidth available to the channel connections.
3. Apply all queued updates from the safe queue on the passive server to disk.
4. Start the protected application on the new active server.

A good indication of the time it will take to perform a switchover for a particular server can be estimated by the time it takes to manually stop and re-start all application services.
