Neverfail Heartbeat and Virtual Servers

This Knowledgebase article provides information about Neverfail Heartbeat and virtual environments.

More Information

It is possible to install Neverfail into a virtual machine environment, where one or both of the servers is a virtual machine (VM), using hardware virtualization software, such as VMware or Microsoft Hyper-V.

Prior to implementation in such an environment, the installer must ensure that the virtual machine is allocated sufficient resources to provide the normal level of service to client users when that machine takes on an active server role. The installer must run Neverfail SCOPE and carefully review the analysis to ensure a successful implementation and satisfactory performance.

Support for Neverfail Heartbeat in such an environment will extend to any questions or issues arising from the use or configuration of Neverfail software, where the question or issue also arises when running on a physical server pair. Neverfail does not provide support for the virtual machine environment itself in any way, nor do we support running our software at the host level, on the physical machine that runs the virtual machine(s).

Neverfail does not recommend any particular third-party virtual machine product.
