What makes up the NFHWID?

The first two letters are calculated from the MAC address of a NIC, the next two are from the CPU ID, and the last two are from the BIOS serial no.

So if the first two change, but the other two are the same it means that a different NIC (or at least a different MAC address) is being used. If the next two change it’s the CPU, if the last two change it’s the BIOS.
