How to Specify or Adjust Filters Manually in Neverfail Up to and Including V5.2.2

This Knowledgebase article provides information about how to specify or manually adjust file filters.

More Information

Neverfail uses file filters to identify protected application files and assign a protection mode.  Neverfail provides an easy method to modify which files are to be included in the protected file list via the Neverfail Heartbeat Management Client.

To specify or manually adjust file filters, follow the steps below:

  1. Launch the Neverfail Heartbeat Management Client.
  2. Click on the Data button.
  3. Select the Configuration tab.
  4. Data Configuration

  5. The file protection table shows two columns, the File Filter and Protection Mode.
  6. The File Filter column lists the rules for protecting files and folders on the active server. The protection mode details how the files stipulated by the file filter entry will be protected, with respect to the level of protection, which in this release is locked in asynchronous protection mode.
  7. Filters to protect files and folders are defined by adding rows to the list. Click on a list entry and add rows above or below the currently selected list entry by clicking the appropriate button to the top left of the table.
  8. Once a row has been added in the correct place, the filter can be specified either by giving their complete path, or by specifying a pattern containing wildcards. The two forms of wildcards available are '*', which matches all files in the current folder or  '**', which matches all files, subfolders, and the files in the subfolders of the current folder.
Once the filter has been defined, subsequent rows may be added.
  9. File filter entries may be edited by clicking on the rows filter definition and overtyping the file filter definition.
  10. File filter entries may be individually removed from the table by selecting its row entry and clicking the delete row icon.
  11. The entire table may be cleared by clicking the trash icon to the left of the file filter table.
  12. The Apply button must be clicked to ensure any changes are committed to the system.
