Summary

This Knowledgebase article provides information about sites created in SharePoint Portal Administration that are not available after a switchover/failover when SharePoint Portal Server 2007 or SharePoint Services 3.0 is installed with a local SQL Express database and protected by Neverfail for SharePoint release 2007-04-30 and Neverfail for SQL Server up to and including V5.1.1.  This should be fixed in the next release of SQL Server.

Symptom

Sites created in SharePoint Portal Administration site are not available after a switchover/failover.

Cause

SQL Server filter discovery fails to protect the configuration database instance.

Resolution

  1. Switch back to the Primary-active server.
  2. Identify the location of the SQL Express database files.
  3. Add a filter manually through the Neverfail Heartbeat Management Client, Data -> Configuration tab for the unprotected database instance.

For example:

Database files stored here

d:\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\Data

Add following filter

d:\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\Data\**


Applies To

Neverfail for SharePoint release 2007-04-30 with Neverfail for SQL Server V5.1.n
