To uninstall Neverfail Heartbeat manually, follow the steps below; you should read the instructions in full before starting.

Note: These steps identify how to perform the steps manually that the Neverfail uninstaller would perform. They do not take into consideration whether the machine is Primary or Secondary / active or passive.


Procedure

  1. From the Service Control Manager, stop SCOPE Data Collector Service (if running).
  2. Stop the Neverfail Heartbeat service.
    1. Open a DOS command window and type the command: net stop NFServerR2
  3. Uninstall the packet filter if it is still present.

    Note: You must ensure that both machines will not be visible on the network at the same time before proceeding.
    1. Go to Network and Dialup Connections
    2. Select a network connection
    3. Open the 'Local Area Connection Properties' dialog and see if the 'Neverfail Packet Filter Driver' appears in the list.
    4. If it appears, select the 'Neverfail Packet Filter Driver' in the list and click the Uninstall button.
    5. Close the properties dialogs for the network connection and repeat the process for the other network connections.
  4. Uninstall the Neverfail registry driver 'HookRegistryDriver'.
    1. Go to the 'Computer Management' dialog and select 'Device Manager'.
    2. Click on View and ensure 'Show Hidden devices' is selected.
    3. In the tree view, expand the 'Non-Plug and Play Drivers'.
    4. Select 'HookRegistryDriver' (if present) in the list, right-click and select 'Uninstall', click Ok at the prompt, and select not to restart at this moment (the server will be restarted at the end of the procedure).
    5. Execute 'Regedit' and delete the following registry key(if present):
  5. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HookRegistryDriver

  6. Uninstall the Neverfail filter driver 'NFDRV'.
    1. Go to the 'Computer Management' dialog and select 'Device Manager'.
    2. Click on View and ensure 'Show Hidden devices' is selected.
    3. In the tree view, expand the 'Non-Plug and Play Drivers'.
    4. Select 'NFDRV' (if present) in the list, right-click and select 'Uninstall', click Ok at the prompt, and select not to restart at this moment (the server will be restarted at the end of the procedure).
    5. Execute 'Regedit' and delete the following registry key(if present):

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NFDRV

  7. Uninstall NFServerR2 service.
    1. Open a DOS command window and change directory to: <install_directory>:\neverfail\r2\bin.
    2. Enter the command: NFServerR2 -r
    3. You should see the message "Neverfail Server R2 Removed”.
    4. Enter the command: NFStartupApp.exe –r
    5. Enter the command: MonitorService.exe –r
    6. You should see the message “Neverfail Application Module Monitor removed”.
    7. Close the DOS command window (compulsory).
  8. Delete additional registry keys.
    1. Execute 'Regedit'.
    2. Delete the following registry keys:
  9. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Prefs\neverfail

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Neverfail

  10. Delete the Neverfail Program Group.
    1. Navigate to and right-click on the Neverfail Program Group. From the context menu select Delete
  11. Delete the Neverfail Heartbeat program files.
    1. Open Windows Explorer and delete the directory: <install_directory>:\neverfail
  12. Set the protected application’s services back to 'Automatic'.
  13. Restart the machine and check that the protected application has started and it is providing service to users.
