Offline Defrag Should Not be Performed During a Scheduled or Manual Data Rollback Module Snapshot

This Knowledgebase article recommends that a database offline defrag should not be performed using Eseutil.exe when a scheduled or manual Data Rollback Module (DRM) snapshot is due to take place.

More Information

Performing an offline defrag of a database during a scheduled or manual DRM snapshot may cause the data to become inconsistent and prevent mounting of the database upon completion of the offline defrag.

Prior to initiating an offline defrag of a database, ensure that DRM is not scheduled to automatically create a snapshot or initiate a manual snapshot.  Since it is difficult to predict the duration of an offline defrag, Neverfail recommends that DRM snapshots be temporarily disabled until the offline defrag is complete.
