Considerations When Deploying Neverfail for Blackberry Enterprise Server in a WAN

Summary

This Knowledgebase article provides recommendations when deploying Neverfail for BlackBerry Enterprise Server in a WAN environment.

More Information

RIM recommends that a maximum of 5 remote users be configured to use BlackBerry Enterprise for Exchange over a WAN ( RIM KB 00230 ).

This is because communication between BlackBerry, Exchange, and Active Directory requires high bandwidth and low latency networks. For this reason, these systems must be deployed and operational within the same site.

The following recommendation must be followed when deploying Neverfail for BlackBerry Enterprise Server in a WAN

  • Deploy Neverfail for Exchange so that the Secondary server is present in the DR site.
  • Ensure that there is a Domain Controller present in the DR site.
If Neverfail for Exchange or Neverfail for BlackBerry switches or fails over to the Disaster Recover site, then Administrators should switch the other system over to provide service from the same location. Leaving these components running either side of the WAN link will seriously impact application performance. Applies to
