System Post Start Task Fails if Verbose Logging is Enabled on the Plug-in

This Knowledgebase article provides information about a warning message displayed when verbose logging is enabled on plug-ins in Neverfail Heartbeat V5.3.3 and Earlier.

More Information

When the System Post Start task under the System sponsor runs with verbose logging enabled, it returns the following Warning Message:

Post Start: Failed: System.NullReferenceException:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object at Neverfail.Amfx.TaskManagement.PluginTaskImplementation.
Run(Int64 timeoutms, String sponsoredName) Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

This Warning Message results in an 'Application Status' of: Timeout in Starting/Stopping - Unmonitored and 'Application Health - Unmonitored.

If verbose logging is enabled, the plug-in will try to log a debug message with
the Task/Rule parameters.  When the rule is called it results in an exception.

If it is necessary to use verbose logging (for example, diagnosing problems with Neverfail for Exchange Plug-in), the following procedure can be used:

  1. Uninstall the desired plug-in (for example, Neverfail for Exchange Plug-in).
  2. Uninstall Neverfail System plug-in.
  3. Turn on verbose logging.
  4. Reinstall the desired plug-in (in this example, Neverfail for Exchange Plug-in).
  5. Gather the logs.
  6. Turn off verbose logging.
  7. Reinstall Neverfail System Plug- in.
