VMware vCenter Server Heartbeat - Using Terminal Services or Remote Desktop with vCenter Server Heartbeat

This Knowledgebase article provides information about using Terminal Services or Remote Desktop to manage vCenter Server Heartbeat.

More Information

When using Terminal Services to manage vCenter Server Heartbeat services, please bear the following in mind:

  • When remotely managing servers, a management (backdoor) IP address may be used to access the passive server. VMware recommends that this IP address be on a different subnet than the main Principal (Public) network IP address.
  • When using Windows Server 2003, make sure that the management (backdoor) IP address is first in the list of IP addresses on the Principal (Public) network card. Please refer to vCSHB-Ref-1668 - 'vCenter Server Heartbeat - How to Configure Management IP Addressing and Routing, for further advice on configuring management (backdoor) IP addresses .

VMware recommends avoiding remote installations via Terminal Services or Remote Desktop. However, if this cannot be avoided please contact your VMware Support Representative for further assistance.
