This Knowledgebase article provides information about failed Neverfail Heartbeat installations on Windows Server 2003 and 2008 related to FIPS.
If FIPS is enabled on a Windows 2003 or 2008 server and installation of Neverfail Heartbeat is attempted, the installation will fail at Adding File Filter : C:\protected\** .
Neverfail Heartbeat Setup fails at the point of creating
. The following error message is generated:
Neverfail Heartbeat Installer has Stopped Working.
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly
Please close the program.
This issue occurs due to a conflict with FIPS.
Perform the following steps to disable FIPS while performing the Neverfail Heartbeat installation:
Disable FIPS by editing the registry.
WARNING: Always create a backup before modifying the registry.
- Run Regedit.exe .
Locate the following entries (if present):
These registry values reflect the current FIPS setting. If this setting is enabled, the value is 1. If this setting is disabled, the value is 0.
- Edit to set the value to 0.
- Run in a CMD console: gpupdate /force.
- Install Neverfail Heartbeat.
- Re-enable FIPS by repeating step 1 and editing to set the value to 1.
