More Information

There may be occasions where it is necessary to change the SolarWinds Channel IP address(es) on an Orion Failover Engine server pair.  Orion Failover Engine can accommodate the requirement with some minor configuration changes.

Procedure

To change the SolarWinds Channel IP address on an Orion Failover Engine server pair, follow the steps below:

The following assumes the server pair is configured with the primary server as active, and the secondary server as passive.

  1. Launch the SolarWinds Orion Failover Manager on the primary (active) server.
  2. Stop Orion Failover Engine leaving the protected applications running.
  3. Change primary and secondary Channel IP address(es); making sure it is set in a different subnet class than the principal (public) addresses. If the principal (public) and channel connection are in the same subnet, please see SWREFID - 1961 - How to Create a Static Route for the SolarWinds Channel Connection Where the Channel and Principal IP Addresses Are on the Same Subnet in a WAN Environment .
  4. Open the Server Configuration wizard on the primary server and select the Channel tab.
  5. Edit the channel IP address(es). The primary server channel IP can be selected from the drop down box. The secondary server channel IP address needs to be filled in manually, ensuring to press Enter once the IP address of the secondary server is correct. Click Finish .

Note: If you do not press Enter , the changes will not be stored.

  6. Open the Server Configuration wizard on the secondary server and select the Channel tab.
  7. Edit the channel IP address(es) for the secondary server. Select the secondary server channel IP address from the drop down box. The primary server channel IP address needs to be filled in manually. Click Finish when done.
  8. Start Orion Failover Engine on the secondary (passive) server.
  9. Start Orion Failover Engine on the primary (active) server and allow servers to resynchronize.
