This Knowledgebase article provides information about installing Orion Failover Engine when logged on as a domain user and member of the local machine's Administrator Group resulting in Orion Failover Engine failing to start on the Secondary server.

Symptoms

After installing Orion Failover Engine and attempting to start the Secondary server, the server fails to start and the following error message is logged:

NFServerR2: SolarWinds Orion Failover Engine failed to initialize: Failed to set packet filter loadstate NFServerR2: SolarWinds Orion Failover Engine service has shutdown. Please see the SolarWinds Orion Failover Engine Logs. You are advised to restart the server.

Cause

The user installing Orion Failover Engine was logged on as a domain user and member of the local machine's Administrator Group rather than as a Domain Administrator.

Workaround

Disable UAC on the Secondary server and reinstall Orion Failover Engine. Once installation completes, enable UAC.
