EVault - How to Upgrade EVault Remote Disaster Recovery

This Knowledge Base article provides the procedures to upgrade an earlier version of EVault Remote Disaster Recovery to a later version.

Using the procedures listed below will preserve current configuration settings during the upgrade process.

Procedure

The following steps, performed in sequence, will upgrade EVault Remote Disaster Recovery from an earlier version to a later version.

Service Pack upgrade

Note: Performing a Service Pack upgrade does not upgrade the System Plug-in. The System Plug-in must be upgraded separately using the procedure provided below under 'Plug-ins Upgrade'.

  1. Download the new version of EVault Remote Disaster Recovery WinZip self-extracting file to a desired location on both the Primary and Secondary servers.
  2. On the Primary/active server, stop EVault Remote Disaster Recovery opting to leave protected applications running.
  3. Navigate to Start > Administrative Tools > Services and set the EVault Remote Disaster Recovery service to manual.
  4. On the Secondary/passive server, navigate to Start > Administrative Tools > Services and set the EVault Remote Disaster Recovery service to manual.
  5. On the Secondary/passive server, disconnect the network cable from the Principal (Public) NIC.
  6. On the Primary/active server, double-click the WinZip self-extracting file: The Setup Introduction page is displayed. Click OK .
  7. The WinZip self-extractor page is displayed. Click Setup to open the EVault Remote Disaster Recovery Setup page.
  8. Select the option to Install Service Pack when the Setup Type page is displayed.
  9. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the ServicePack.nfs script and when prompted, reboot the server.

    Note: Use the present path to the Service Pack.
  10. On the Secondary/passive server, repeat steps 6 to 9, in order to install the new EVault Remote Disaster Recovery Service Pack.

    Note: During the Service Pack installation, the new EVault Remote Disaster Recovery plug-ins are copied to <EVault Remote Disaster Recovery install dir>\R2\<version> plug-ins\<plug-in name> .
  11. On the Primary/active server, check the configuration of the NICs and make corrections if necessary (the packet filter should be selected on Principal (Public) NICs and cleared on the Channel NICs).
  12. On the Secondary/passive server, check the configuration of NICs and make corrections if necessary (the packet filter should be selected on Principal (Public) NICs and cleared on the Channel NICs).
  13. On the Primary/active server, start EVault Remote Disaster Recovery.
  14. Navigate to Start > Administrative Tools > Services and set the EVault Remote Disaster Recovery service to automatic.
  15. On Secondary/passive server, start EVault Remote Disaster Recovery and then reconnect the network cable to the Principal (Public) NIC.
  16. Navigate to Start > Administrative Tools > Services and set the EVault Remote Disaster Recovery service to automatic.

Plug-ins Upgrade

Note: This is performed by uninstalling the old versions of EVault Remote Disaster Recovery plug-ins and reinstalling the new ones.

  1. On the Primary/active server, launch the EVault Remote Disaster Recovery Management Client.
  2. To uninstall the old plug-in, navigate to Application: Plug-ins , and select the desired plug-in to be removed/uninstalled.
  3. Click on the Uninstall button in the Plug-ins pane.

    Note: When the plug-in is uninstalled, the files are not removed. They are left in <EVault Remote Disaster Recovery install dir>\R2\plugins folder.
  4. To install the new plug-in, navigate to Application: Plug-ins , then click on the Install button.
  5. Click the Browse button and navigate to the <EVault Remote Disaster Recovery install dir>\R2\<version> plugins\<plug-in name> location.
  6. Select the *NFPlugin.dll file, then click OK to complete the installation (for example, SystemMonitorNFPlugin.dll for the System Plug-in).

Note: During upgrade procedure, the EVault Remote Disaster Recovery server plug-in Username and Password are not saved, so they must be configured immediately after the new plug-in installation. Also, EVault Remote Disaster Recovery server rules should be checked and enabled/disabled as desired.
