Files in the IBM_Technical_Support on a Lotus Domino Server Might Present Hard Links

This Knowledgebase article details a known issue that might arise when protecting a Lotus Domino server with Neverfail for Lotus Domino.

More Information

When Lotus Domino service is stopped uncleanly or when it crashes, an NSD log file is generated and can be used later to determine the root cause of the Lotus failure. The log file will be created under:

During a switchover or failover, these files are detected as an unprotected feature (Hard Link) and stop either application starting on the new active server or the application starts with no replication occurring. The protected application can be started manually if this behavior is encountered.

More information about the Lotus crash and the NSD log file can be found here:

By default, the folder partition_drive_letter:\lotus\domino\data (which contains the IBM_Technical_Support folder) is included in the protected data set in a Lotus Domino environment protected by Neverfail.

To avoid this problem, the workaround is to exclude this Lotus log folder from the filters:

In Neverfail Heartbeat V5.2.2 and earlier:

The partition_drive_letter:\lotus\domino\data folder must be removed from the protected file filters set and the folders that it contains must be added to the protected file filters set excluding the IBM_Technical_Support folder.

In Neverfail Heartbeat V5.3.0 and later:

The partition_drive_letter:\lotus\domino\data folder can be added as an 'Exclusion' filter following the steps below:

  1. Open the Neverfail Heartbeat Management Client.
  2. Click on Data and select the 'Configuration' tab.
  3. Click on the Add Exclusion Filter… button.
  4. Enter partition_drive_letter:\lotus\domino\data and click OK to save the filter.
