Monitoring the environment can be broadly categorized as:

  • Active Server and Service Availability Monitoring
  • Application and Performance Monitoring

Active Server and Service Availability Monitoring

Neverfail monitors the availability of a server by sending continuous heartbeat signals via the Neverfail Channel to the other server in the pair. The “Yes I am alive” response ensures that not only is the other server powered-up, but also that it is available if needed. The heartbeat signal interval is configurable from the Neverfail Management Client.

Application and Performance Monitoring

Rules - There are no configurable performance monitoring rules for this plug-in.

Tasks - There are no configurable 'Tasks' associated with this plug-in. Custom User defined 'Tasks' can be defined by following the steps below.

Protected Data

This is a description of the protected data set that was determined at plug-in install time. Please note that exact filters will be based on the configuration of the application at the moment that the plug-in was installed.

  • All registry data relating to file shares
  • All the file shares, including specific security settings and user rights

Install Neverfail for SQL Server on the server if one of the following locally installed databases is present: SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008, MSDE, or SQL Express Edition. In these instances, please follow the advice in Knowledgebase article #520 - 'Modifications Required When Neverfail for RightFax and Neverfail for SQL Server Are Installed on the Same Server'.

Automatic Filter Discovery

This plug-in provides a filter discovery component for the following data stored in custom locations:

  • Data Sharing paths for images
  • Signatures
  • Forms
  • Cover sheets
  • Outgoing files
  • Attachments
  • Native documents

Telecoms and Fax Boards

The Captaris RightFax solution requires hardware fax boards connected directly to the public telephone network. The fax boards can be installed either in remote board servers or locally on the RightFax Server. It is recommended that fax boards NOT be installed locally on a RightFax server that is protected with Neverfail. Fax boards require a connection to the public telephone network, and since those connections are physically tied to specific inbound telephone numbers, it is not possible to provide seamless failover to a secondary RightFax server with local fax boards; telephone circuits would have to be manually re-routed to the Secondary server. Customers should deploy their fax boards on remote board servers, which can be redundantly distributed.

Unsupported Components and Features

This plug-in does not protect the following application features or components:

  • RightFax Shared Services
