This Knowledgebase article details the procedure to enable low/high bandwidth FSM.
Neverfail’s Low Bandwidth Module contains two main processes:
- The first process splits files that are verified/synchronized into 1MB sections and will synchronize instead of verify files that are smaller than 100 bytes. This process ensures that Neverfail Heartbeat works in a more controlled manner and efficiently so data does not flood limited channel connections. Without LBM, sections are 10MB in size with a verify size of 4096 bytes.
- The second process compresses the data to be sent across the channel.
For Support troubleshooting purposes, the first mechanism can be manually switched using nfclient.exe console from <NFinstallPath>\R2\Bin folder.
To activate Low Bandwidth FSM (1MB sections and verify size of 100 bytes) launch the following command from the nfclient console:
To enable High Bandwidth FSM (10MB sections and verify size of 4096 bytes) launch the following command from the nfclient console:
The command need only be launched only on the active server with Neverfail Heartbeat running. The next verify/sync task will have the new settings. In an environment were LBM is enabled and large files (over 50GB) require only to be verified (they are the same on both sides) enabling High Bandwidth FSM should speed up the verify process. After the verify process is finished the FSM settings should be reverted.
Note: Using the commands above does not affect whether data is compressed for transmission across the channel.
